Unlucky weekend in Singapore for Esteban

MoneyGram Haas F1 Team finished with Oliver Bearman ninth, and Esteban Ocon 18th, at the Singapore Grand Prix, held Sunday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

After an unlucky qualifying session, Esteban started from 17th place on the grid,  on medium tires, and maintained position through the opening lap. The Frenchman came into the pits on lap 30, switching to the hard compound, and emerged in a tight battle in the mid-field. Esteban scrapped with Gabriel Bortoleto for P17 but eventually came home just three-tenths down on the Sauber driver, registering P18 in a race in which all 20 starters were classified.

MoneyGram Haas F1 Team holds ninth position in the Constructors’ Championship, on 46 points.

George Russell of Mercedes claimed victory, his second of the year, ahead of Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Esteban Ocon “It was always going to be a tough challenge, but we at least gained a position at the start, and we moved up a couple of positions in the first few laps. We were on for catching Lance (Stroll) at some stage, it was getting better through the race. But we stayed out really late and when we boxed, we lost out on everything. We couldn’t recover because of the DRS train that was in front – that was it for the race really. It feels like we’ve had a missed opportunity this weekend.”
